Why Service Your Hybrid Vehicle at Bolton Tyre & Exhaust Limited

Bolton Tyre & Exhaust Ltd have been servicing hybrid cars like the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius for over 5 years now.

More than 1,000 garages across the UK have received hybrid awareness courses from the Independent Garage Association. Most of the servicing is routine, but mechanics need training in how to cope with high voltage and safety systems before being allowed to work on hybrids.

The course is backed by the Institute of the Motor Industry and provides workers with a qualification to deal with the eco models. Therefore drivers can be safe in the knowledge that their car will be serviced to the same standards as a main dealer without compromising the Warranty!!

Bolton Tyre & Exhaust Ltd have a dedicated member of staff who is qualified to carry out repairs

This comes as good news for hybrid owners and independent garages after new research from Independent Garage Association, Trust My Garage, claimed that seven out of 10 drivers choose independent garages over main dealers for their new car service.

Contrary to widely held beliefs, there is no legal obligation to service your vehicle at a main dealer, with new European laws allowing servicing at an independent garage without the warranty being invalidated.

Hybrid Vehicle Servicing at Bolton Tyre and Service Centre

The British hybrid car market is the fourth largest worldwide, trailing Japan, the US and France. Ownership of hybrids has almost doubled in the past three years, with over 25,000 currently on British roads. No matter what alternative fuel vehicle you drive, it will not only run better—but last longer and save you money—if you take the time to do regular maintenance. Yes, sometimes it’s a hassle, but the results are well worth the effort. A combination of regular routine maintenance on each of a vehicle’s major systems, as well as individual components, contributes to the overall safety and reliability of the vehicle.

There are two basic types of hybrid:

A parallel hybrid – such as the Honda Insight, has an electric motor which can power the car alongside the engine. This allows a smaller engine to be used because the motor can help out when a lot of power is needed. The motor can also act as a generator when the car is slowed down and recover energy to partially recharge the battery

Series hybrids – A small engine runs a generator to charge the battery and a separate motor uses power from the generator and, when necessary, the battery to power the car. Because the engine cannot directly power the car, this arrangement suffers from greater electrical losses and needs a bigger electric motor.
